The GamREMTI Fogarty Scholars and Faculty participated in the 17th World Congress of Bioethics Conference in Doha, Qatar in June 2024. The theme of the conference was, “Religion, Culture, and Global Bioethics” and scholars presented three papers, 1) Ethical Perspectives of Collecting Biological Samples for Health Research in Africa: A Scoping Review, 2) Does Religion Hamper Coroner Autopsy Examination? An Evaluation from The Gambia, and 3) Translating and Adapting Bioethical Principles in the African Socio-cultural Contexts: An Integrative Review, thus contributing to the advancement of bioethical standards and practices in health research.
The Conference brought together a diverse assembly of researchers and bioethicists from around the world, which provided an invaluable platform to discuss pressing bioethical issues, foster collaborations, and share groundbreaking developments in the field of bioethics. Through presentations, panel discussions, and networking, the GamREMTI Team engaged with Bioethicists and scientists. The experience highlighted the Team’s dedication to strengthening bioethics and health research in the Gambia and globally.
