The GamREMTI Team held an orientation for the second cohort of scholars for the Postgraduate Certificate in Health Research Ethics and Methodology Program (PCHREM) on Friday, September 13th, 2024, at the Bray Lecture Theatre, Medical Research Council Unit, The Gambia (MRCG). The event was chaired by the principal investigator of the program, Dr. Veronica P.S. Njie-Carr, University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) in the USA. Other investigators were in attendance, Dr. Henry Silverman, UMB, Dr. Effua Usuf, MRCG, Dr. Jainaba Sey-Sawo, University of The Gambia (UTG), and Dr. Thomas Senghore, UTG. Staff in attendance included Mr. Lamin F. Bayo, grants manager, UTG; Ms. Tomilayo F. Omotosho, program manager, UTG; Ms. Leslien O. Sarpong, graduate research assistant, UMB; and Mr. Kenneth Manneh, web developer and communications director, Tech Solutions.
We are proud to welcome all thirteen scholars to the PCHREM Program – Alhagie Sillah, Baboucarr M. A. Saine, Bakalilu Kijera, Chinenye Agnes Ariwaodo, Fatoumata Bah, Lamin K. Jawneh, Malang Jarjou, Mariama Bojang, Mariam Ceesay, Omar Jaiteh, Sarja Jarjusey, Seyfo Singhateh, and Yankuba Samateh. We wish them all the best in their studies.
The GamREMTI Team is absolutely delighted to receive a supplemental grant award from the Fogarty International Center to supplement the 5-year grant. The project is designed to empower stakeholders and community members to engage in research, build trust, ensure relevant and applicable outcomes, and improve researchers’ engagement methods for equitable power and resource distribution. The 2024-2025 GamREMTI Scholars will actively participate in this project.
The GamREMTI program is supported by a 5-year grant and a 1-year supplemental grant from the Fogarty International Center at the National Institutes of Health in the United States (R25 TW011804; 3R25TW011804-03S1).
