Dr. Henry Silverman is a professor at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. He received his medical degree from the Johns Hopkins Medical School (1978) and a master’s degree in Philosophy from Georgetown University (1995). He is the PI of Fogarty-sponsored training programs in research ethics focused on building individual and institutional capacity in the Middle East (since 2004) and Myanmar (since 2015). He has mentored many successful trainees to develop careers in research ethics. Dr. Silverman understands the intricacies of enhancing research ethics systems in developing countries and he is knowledgeable of culture-related aspects relevant to establishing a training program for individuals from LMIC.
